It’s been a hot minute, but hey, life gets hectic! Over the December holidays, I travelled to some new places in Europe. It’s always really interesting to me that so many places in Europe are so advanced when it comes to restaurant protocols, gluten free marked snacks, and more! This time we visited Lisbon (in Portugal) and travelled all around there, Porto (in Portugal) and travelled all around there, finishing off in London, England. I’ve been posting for almost 2 months on Instagram about my tremendous experience that blew me out of the water!
Typically, the way I go about my holidays, I bring my own breakfast no matter what. All of the hotels we were staying at came with breakfast included. I find it easiest, safe and the best with my stomach to bring my own, that way I know my stomach will be 100% fine for the day ahead of me. Again – that’s just me, but it works!
In Lisbon, we found some wonderful restaurants, Zarzuela was by far my favourite. Entirely GF, they even had Pastel de Nata’s (the famous Portuguese pastry on every street corner). Although it wasn’t my thing, I absolutely loved the Chocolate Croissants at Zarzuela, and we kept visiting over and over again for some yummy treats. Not only did they have wonderful baked goods, but they had a full breakfast, lunch and early dinner menu that looked incredible! Of course, with my sweet tooth, I always went for the desserts, but everything looked amazing!
In Porto, Com Cuore was my go-to! Also – entirely gluten free, they had wonderful ready made pastries, again including Pastel de Nata’s, and other treats. I turned to the gluten free waffles for lunch every single time. Adding some Nutella of course (just need that extra sweetness), and whatever fruit they provided to me was more than perfect! They had other great looking (and tasting) foods. My brother tried their grilled cheese, my sister tried their crepes, and Jake and I got the same waffles and Nutella every single time!
Next on our list was London. Since there was no barrier when it came to language, we didn’t go out of our way to find any restaurants/bakeries, although we knew that there were lots! My go-to was Marks & Spencer, and other grocery stores looking for new, yummy treats, bars and good foods to try! I was definitely not disappointed there, so all in all, a happy camper!
A trip of a lifetime, with great tasting meals, desserts and of course the best company! Please reach out with any questions, and take a look at my Featured Restaurants to learn more. Don’t let Celiac Disease hold you back!
Love to all xo,
Welcome to MCL World
I am currently in my 20's, working a full-time job in downtown Toronto, and enjoying the foods I have always dreamed of. I absolutely love to travel, and I am always excited to explore new gluten-free restaurants that I can feel comfortable at in a new city or country!
